Rhinophyma Treatment New York, NY

Rhinophyma Treatment

Thickened, bumpy skin on the nose can be caused by rhinophyma, a form of rosacea. This skin condition can cause a nose deformity and a cosmetic concern. If you have rhinophyma, treatment is available to relieve the symptoms and improve the appearance of your nose. At Timeless MedSpa NYC, we offer a wide variety of skin treatments, including rhinophyma treatment, at our UES clinic.

What Causes Rhinophyma?

Patients with rhinophyma may have other forms of rosacea or acne breakouts that preceded their condition, or rhinophyma can occur on its own. The exact cause of rhinophyma is not known, but there are risk factors. Rhinophyma primarily affects males, but it does impact a small number of females. Enlargement of the blood vessels in the nose and sebaceous glands in the skin on the nose cause the bumpy appearance and thickening of the skin.

Rhinophyma can be mild or severe. Mild cases may only present with reddish skin and enlarged pores, but no skin thickening or bulbous appearance. Severe cases can result in red skin with prominent blood vessels, enlarged pores, bulbous appearance, oozing pores and scarring. Severe cases of rhinophyma can be uncomfortable and result in a deformity of the nose that is very noticeable.

Non-Surgical Rhinophyma Treatment

While there is not a cure for rhinophyma, there are non-surgical treatments that can improve the symptoms and appearance of the skin. There are topical medications that can control the skin inflammation and reduce the skin thickening. In addition, there are skin treatments that will help smooth the bumpy, inflamed skin and reshape the nose. Laser skin resurfacing, dermabrasion and dermaplaning are some treatments that can improve the appearance of the nose.

In severe cases of rhinophyma, rhinoplasty may be the best option for reshaping the nose. Our founder, Dr. Aleksandr Shteynberg, is a double board certified plastic surgeon who can discuss rhinophyma treatments, including rhinoplasty.
