Botox for Masseter Reduction/Face Slimming

Botox® injections are used for a wide variety of cosmetic and medical treatments. While Botox Cosmetic is best known for frown line treatments, it can be used to accomplish many aesthetic benefits, including masseter reduction. Botox works by blocking nerve signals to muscles to stop normal contractions. For masseter reduction and face slimming purposes, Botox is targeted at the masseter muscles. Multiple injections are used to relax the masseter muscles on either side of the jaw.

Botox takes a few days to become effective and lasts about 3-4 months. During this treatment time, the masseter muscles are relaxed and begin to shrink in size. For most patients, one treatment is all that is needed to slim the face and jaw. This can reduce a square jawline and create a more oval or heart-shaped face that is less masculine and more feminine.

Masseter Reduction Surgery

In some cases, non-surgical masseter reduction does not achieve the desired results. For more dramatic face slimming, plastic surgery may be required.
